A Ranch Hand is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the daily operations of a ranch. This includes animal care, maintaining equipment, working with livestock, and supporting the overall functioning of the ranch. The role requires physical labor, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and care for beef cattle ensuring their health and well-being.
- Assist in moving, herding, and rounding up livestock, as well as maintaining and repairing fences to ensure the safety and security of the animals.
- Keep barns, stables, and other facilities clean and organized. Perform basic maintenance and repairs on ranch equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Prepare and distribute food for animals, as well as groom and check their health, looking for signs of illness or injury.
- Perform general upkeep of the ranch, including cleaning water troughs, repairing buildings, and maintaining the property.
- Assist with other tasks such as planting, harvesting, or irrigation when necessary, depending on the type of ranch.
- Collaborate with the ranch manager and other staff to ensure daily tasks are completed efficiently and according to ranch guidelines.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a ranch or in animal care is preferred.
- Knowledge of livestock handling, basic ranch equipment, and general maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Basic knowledge of ranch operations and safety protocols.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- No formal education required, but experience in agriculture or livestock management is a plus.
